Adventure Skills- Session 5

Each of our middle school camps includes a Thursday night campout onsite at KNC or offsite at Markin Glen Park. Sessions 2, 4, 6, and 8 are onsite, and Sessions 1, 3, 5, and 7 are offsite. All campouts include food preparation, applying Leave No Trace Principles, and proper gear use. We’ll focus on building special outdoor experiences and skills, including leadership and teamwork experience through “low ropes” initiatives challenges and KNC service projects as available. The themes below describe additional activities we will add during that session of camp. Note: Participants should be able to carry a 30-pound pack, walk two miles a day, and learn and use backcountry bathroom techniques if facilities are unavailable.

Please remember to pack a lunch for your full-day camper. Adventure Skills has a campout at the end of each week. Overnight campout is 9 AM on Thursday through noon on Friday. Tents and 3 meals are provided for the campout. Tents are not shared. Please feel free to provide your own tent.

This camp is intended for children entering 6th-8th grade in the Fall.

This Week: Prehistoric

Do you know which prehistoric creatures once roamed Michigan? The Earth can tell us much about history and the creatures that walked before us. Let’s discover its secrets together. Examine objects with Western Michigan University’s Geological and Enironmental Sciences and visit The Schmaltz Geology Museum and Dinosaur Park. Hike the Grave Pits to search deep within for fossils. Camp offsite Thursday night.
