Connecting deeply to the natural world in the place we live in is a guiding principle for KNC. This new series will be a place to learn from local experts about our local ecology, landscapes, environmental issues, flora and fauna, and our human interactions with the world we are part of.

This Month: Garlic Mustard Games

Come join in on some volunteer stewardship this spring by picking garlic mustard right here at the Kalamazoo Nature Center! Garlic mustard is a common non-native invasive species that takes over large areas of land thus disrupting ecosystems that were once balanced. Do your part to remove this invasive plant by coming out to the KNC for our third annual Garlic Mustard Games on 18 May 2024 from 12-3 pm. Participants will earn the chance to win prizes for picking the most garlic mustard in this friendly competition. Last year’s participants were able to remove over 700 pounds of garlic mustard from KNC grounds in just one afternoon! Come out to this year's Garlic Mustard Games to see if we can beat last year's total and have fun doing it. Contact Kyra Blum at kblum@naturecenter.org for further questions.

This program will meet at the Sugar Shack in the Arboretum.
